Washed Up! concluded in June and we are now looking forward to some new exhibitions! Another open call is likely for an exhibition around November/December time, with a couple of one- or two- person shows firming up for the autumnal interim (watch this space). If YOU are a lens-based artist and have anything - from a vague idea to a firm proposal - to put to us, do feel free to email hello@anordinaryplace.com and make your pitch!

July 13th 2026:

It's coming up for three weeks since Washed Up! ended. Time for a bit of reflection...

Many, many thanks to everyone who supported the exhibition, by submitting prints for display, by coming to see the exhibition, by buying prints, by sponsoring the show, and by volunteering to help out at the event (some of you actually did more than one of those things).

You can never be taken for granted; without you, Washed Up! would have been a bit of a struggle, and a tad pointless. That so many photographers saw fit to submit work, to a new exhibition in a previously untried venue in Leith, speaks volumes for the depth of their belief (in us, and in themselves) and also the significant unmet need for accessible gallery space around here. Hopefully we'll be able to take the space, and the community that grows around it, forward over the coming years. Plans are being hatched for a couple of exhibitions (at least) between now and Christmas, and if anyone has any proposals for exhibitions (of their own work, and/or others...) please do get in touch via enquiries@anordinaryplace.com.

In the coming weeks and months the intention is to develop a (typically bijou) retail component within 87a Ocean Drive, selling cards, zines, prints and books to the general public. The merch will broadly reflect the content of current and previous exhibitions, but any proposals for additional items to sell in An Ordinary Place should be directed to the email address above.

March 31st 2026:

So we're going to run our first exhibition at 87a in June this year, to coincide with the Leith Festival. Washed Up! will be an open show, for photographers at any level of training and experience to display their work. Submission deadline 30th April 2026. Details are on the new Gallery & Exhibitions page of this very website!
