Bobby dazzler

It is, of course, something of a tourist cliche: the bronze statue of Greyfriars Bobby needs no introduction for anyone with even a passing interest in Scotland's capital. The tradition of touching the nose of the legendary canine - for luck - has inevitably resulted in some brightening of our Bobby's snout, not always to the satisfaction of the guardians of Edinburgh's heritage. However, the true architectural gem on display here might not be the tousled terrier himself, but rather the perch upon which he sits: most folk busy petting the nose of Greyfriars' favourite pup won't be aware that, since 1977, the granite plinth and fountain underneath Bobby comprises Edinburgh's smallest listed building....
