Black flag

A black flag on the island of Spinalonga near Crete symbolises the curious and sometimes sad history of this former leper colony. This image was taken in 2012, but the island has barely changed in decades - even the Germans occupying Crete during World War II left the lepers of Spinalonga very much to themselves.
