Bicycle stops match

Malawi is one of the poorest countries on the planet, and facilities for even basic recreation are not well developed. But while in my youth jumpers-for-goalposts was the order of the day, in Malawi local community football gatherings have taken it one stage further.

Each team brings its own goals (two sturdy straight branches connected with string) and inserts the posts into the pre-made holes in the ground at the start of their match. At the gathering shown here, there were a half-dozen pitches, each one surrounded by as many local teams waiting their turn, goalposts at the ready.

And if one pitch happens to cross a cycle route, its no biggie...
