Portobello is Edinburgh's own wee seaside resort (although those from Leith may argue it belongs to them). Its sandy beach and esplanade have variously been the preserve of well-to-do Victorians, entrepreneurial Edwardians, and post-war working class day trippers.

More recently, Porty has rocked a somewhat bohemian vibe: artists, open water swimmers, random musicians, beach volleyballers, rowers, film-makers, restauranteurs, and even the odd photographer, hang out together on the prom. And while dog walkers are abundant throughout the year, even taking your ferret for a morning stroll doesn't turn many heads down Portobello way...
