Before the summer festivals really take off in Edinburgh, the city goes through a limbering up period, where the cobbles of the Royal Mile and the walls of its' innumerable closes resonate to an altogether quieter hum of small family groups, curious/lost backpackers, students cramming for exams, and tour guides in rehearsal mode, while the cafes and restaurants enjoy a half-throttle prequel to the mad anarchy that the Fringe will visit upon them in just a few weeks.

Hence this image of Warriston's Close, taken in April with nary a tourist in sight...
