Hardy perennial

In my ignorance, I call this a garden weed. But this Diascia (twinspur) plant is the most tenacious of little flowers, popping up every year in the soil around the buttresses of the altogether bigger and more brutal privet hedge that towers over it. And no matter what I do to get rid of it - cutting it down, or digging up the roots - it always comes back. Each summer, without fail.

And if anyone thinks I'm making an oblique point about world affairs... well....
